InnerSpace Poetry - Desert Poems

variation of a desert mesa

"My heart sings
As music rings
And we who listen can
Hear the soundless
Songs between
The songs that
Seem to sing"

Desert Poems

"Surrounded by lives
Of those before me
I Walk sacred mesas
Surviving this
Desert sand

Flakes of obsidian
Left long before me
Hint of their spaces
Hidden in this
Desert land

Humbled by those
Who created before me
Pottery pieces are remnant traces
Hiding within
My hand

Sustained by the power
Of those here before me
Those ancient races
Living so briefly within
Their bands

Greeted by sun
That rose before me
Shining on their faces
Guiding my steps as if they
Were planned

Winnowed by winds
Blowing before me
My prints are not places
Vats of time are sifting
The sand"

Sunflower and bee

"Walking fields of longshadows
Flooding this desert land
Forests of shrubs and grasses
Castinging patterns upon the sand

I see the present passing
To the darkness from the light
Colors graying quickly
And fading from my sight

I leave the field and find the road
On which I came to trod
Where pebble shadows cast their patterns
On the driven sod

Watching darkness shadows dance
Upon the limbs of trees
Falcon arises shrieks of surprises
Weakening my knees

Seeing visions in passing of light
Dimming and fading fast
Who next will watch the darkness come
As light goes slipping past"

Kestrels with a variation

"Lifetimes
In the scope of
Days
Passing minutes
Into hours
Hours into days
Hazy frequencies
Time plays"

A desert aster with a twist

"Bright July
Midsummer sky
Afternoon monsoon

Warm frog nights
Nothing bites
Improvement over June

Welcome August moon
None too soon
Height of summer's bloom

Fields of flowers
Thundering showers
Bluebirds all in tune"

A desert aster with a twist

"Red Tail Hawks hover and dive
Bluebirds come back home
More Pinon Jays than we concieve
Hummingbirds have taken leave

Long lightshadows
Play upon the sand
Moonrisings reaching high
Sun moving southward in the sky

Clouds seem lower and brighter still
Captured by color at end of day
Faded flowers turned to seeds
Snowwinds have scattered weeds

Yet in winter
The sky is bluer still
We praise these glorious sights
Long warm days and cool crisp nights"

A desert aster with a twist

"Are you going to tell me
If I'm early or late
Or waiting at the gate
Bound in leather

Do you pretend it's the weather
A lightening or flash
Amused by a dash
In your mind

Do you say it's ok
Or just a delay
A new game to play
Today

I'm going crazy
With mental disanguish
Mindfulls of darkness
A taste of black paste
In my soul

Don't you know
The desert is crying
Seagulls are flying
A turtle hangs dead
In the elevator tread

As I drink from your cup
You empty my vine
You replenish not
With comfort nor time
Leaving me hanging
In space to unwind

With mouthfuls of sand
I thirst and I dine
Arriving on time
To be late

You wait at the gate
Saying nothing I hear
Only silence and wonder
And slow creeping fear

Its all I can see
Its dark in the well
And you took the light
To look for flowers at night

Its cold and its wet
Where you left me behind
Thinking of me
In some other rhyme
Your not upset
Unglued at a seam
You don't understanding
The reality of this dream"
